Singer Chris Brown was sentenced to 180 days community service for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. Wednesday he started serving his sentence in Richmond, VA.
Richmond television stations showed Brown working Wednesday as police stood nearby. He wore an orange vest, white tank top, baggy jeans and red baseball cap and carried a yard tool to cut tall weeds.
Brown did not speak to the media but he waved to fans who saw him working.
The 20-year-old was sentenced in California last month to five years' probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling for the February attack.
He is performing the labor and undergoing counseling in Richmond, near his home in Montpelier.
