Chicago’s farmers market season is just around the corner.
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events released the full schedule Thursday, with the first markets opening in early May.
The official market season begins May 12 with the opening of the Daley Plaza farmers market, the longest-running farmers market in Chicago.
Chicago’s farmers markets bring more than 70 vendors across the city selling fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers and more.
“Chicago’s Farmers Markets bring fresh produce directly to our communities, and also serve as gathering spots to help build a stronger social fabric for our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement. “Each year these markets provide more of our residents and families with access to fresh, healthy, and sustainable foods while also supporting our local farms and food producers.”
This year a select number of market locations will accept Link cards with the hope to provide more access to fresh produce across the city.
