Tom Cross' Parents Hurt in Hit-and-Run Crash After Gay Pride Parade

The parents of former Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross were injured Sunday in a hit-and-run crash after appearing in Chicago's gay pride parade with their son.

Ruth and Thomas Cross were riding in a cab down Clark Street when the vehicle was hit head-on. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Ruth Cross needed 10 stitches for "severe gashes in her head."

Tom Cross, a Republican from Oswego, is running for Illinois Treasurer. He was just one of three House Republicans who voted in favor of the same sex marriage bill that Gov. Pat Quinn signed into law last November.

He faces state Sen. Mike Frerichs, a Democrat from Champaign, in the November election.
