Sen. Meeks Won't Run for Re-Election

Reverend James Meeks, pastor of a Chicago mega church and Illinois State Senator from the 15th District, will not run for re-election next year.

He confirmed the news with Ward Room via text message. He did not take part in Thursday's veto session at the Illinois Statehouse in Springfield.

Meeks briefly campaigned for Mayor of Chicago in the 2011 election before dropping out of the race. He's since faded from the political spotlight.

South Holland Village Administrator Patricia Mahon has said she'll be running for the seat, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The Democratic primary is in March.
