Illinois to Mark Veterans Day With Ceremonies

Ceremonies and memorials are scheduled across Illinois to mark Veterans' Day.

In Chicago, four-star Gen. Robert Cone will speak at the city's Veterans' Day ceremony. Cone is the commander over the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. The event is scheduled for Monday morning at Soldier Field.

Other cities, including Aurora, plan Veterans' Day parades. West Aurora High School will also have on display a traveling replica of the Vietnam Memorial. The moving wall is half the size of the original monument in Washington, D.C. but still has the more than 58,000 names engrave on it.

In Springfield, a parade will go to the Illinois Capitol and there will be a ceremony afterward in the rotunda.

And lawmakers will be making appearances too. U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk will be in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove. He plans to give World War II veteran George Boesen of Arlington Heights the medals he earned for his service but never received.
