Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn next month will travel with other Midwestern governors to Japan, it was announced Tuesday.

The Chicago Democrat will be among the speakers at the 2013 Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference, scheduled for Sept. 7 - 10.

Nine states, including Illinois, are members of the association. Governors, lieutenant governors and business officials usually attend.

"This is an opportunity to grow our exports," Quinn told reporters at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur.
