Emanuel Halts Use of Government-Issued Credit Cards

Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued an order Friday for city sister agency employees to immediately stop the use of government-issued credit cards.

Emanuel's office learned that city sister agencies including CHA, CTA and the Chicago Park District has been using the cards to pay for pricey meals, flowers and city-issued red-light tickets, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The mayor's office said it discovered the credit card abuse during a response to a Freedom of Information request from WFLD news and The Better Government Association.

The mayor has also ordered an audit of all accounts for city-owned credit cards.
