Emanuel Evades Protestors, Uses Side Door

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his security detail displayed some evasive maneuvering Tuesday, avoiding protesters upset about the proposed transfer of mental health care from city clinics to privately run facilities.

The protesters organized themselves outside of the University Club of Chicago, the venue for the mayor's scheduled press conference to discuss Chicago health issues, reports CBS Chicago.

Emanuel's SUV was escorted into an adjacent alley, where Emanuel was then escorted through a side door into the building. Representatives from the mayor's office said he commonly uses side entrances for such events, according to CBS Chicago.

Some mental health advocates outside the mayor's press conference said a lack of proper treatment for the mentally ill could lead to more police cases and distractions from real crime.
