Mayor Richard Daley said at a press conference Thursday that he doesn’t need to do any fundraising for re-election… yet.
“I’ve never had to do any fundraising,” he said. “Look at my career.”
The response was a reaction to a Chicago Tribune article reporting that Daley has nearly $1.5 million in campaign money stored away. This, the Trib states, indicates Daley is considering running for re-election.
So far, no plausible competitor has come forth to challenge Daley for the mayoral position.
Daley is likely keeping quiet about re-election rumors to keep possible challengers, who would have a harder time raising fundraiser money, guessing.
