Details of what it cost the city of Chicago to host last month's NATO Summit are slowly trickling out this week.
The biggest chunk of a preliminary bill is for police overtime, at $14.6 million. But fear not, Chicagoans. It's covered grants and private and federal funds.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security declared the summit a National Special Security Event, and Congress appropriated $7.5 million for it.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's business development group, World Business Chicago, raised about $33 million in private funds, the Chicago Tribune reported.
A separate bill, for $4.6 million, went to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. That organization also received some federal grants, Greg Hinz reported in Crains Chicago Business.
Other agencies unrelated to the city have also begun reporting how the NATO Summit affected their coffers.

- The Evanston Police Department had about $117,000 in overtime and other expenses...
- Chicago Parking Meters LLC reported about $65,000 in lost revenue because of street closures and parking restrictions.
