Chicago residents who can't cast ballots in Tuesday's election have a chance to vote on Monday.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners says in-person absentee voting will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Chicago voters will to the polls to vote for mayor, aldermen and whether the Chicago Board of Education should be elected rather than appointed by the mayor. Other issues include paid sick leave for workers and public funding for Illinois elections.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel faces several challengers, including Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia, Alderman Bob Fioretti and businessman Willie Wilson. Emanuel needs more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff.
Interest appears high for the Feb. 24 race. Nearly 90,000 ballots were cast throughout the early voting period, including more than 21,500 votes on Saturday, which set a single-day record for a municipal election. The entire total is a 23 percent increase from the 2011 election, a Chicago Board of Elections spokesman told NBC Chicago.
