Board Certifies Results From Feb. 24 Election

Turnout in the Feb. 24 election was 34.03 percent, he said

Chicago Board of Elections Commissioner James Allen on Friday morning released the final, official results from the Feb. 24 election.

The results confirm that the mayoral race, as well as 18 aldermanic races, will be decided April 7.

The ward races that will be decided next month include 2, 7, 10, 11, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 24, 29, 31, 36, 37, 41, 43, 45 and 46. The last time Chicago had 18 aldermanic runoffs was in 1991, Allen said.

Unlike initially believed, Ald. Deb Mell (33rd) officially avoided a runoff election with her nearest challenger, Chicago Public Schools teacher Tim Meegan.

Turnout in the Feb. 24 election was 34.03 percent, he said.

"It was low, but not our lowest, and still high relative to turnouts in other municipal elections," Allen said in a statement.

The final numbers are posted on ChicagoElections.com.
