Chicago mayoral candidate Jesus "Chuy" Garcia talks to a reporter, Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, at his campaign headquarters in Chicago.

Several of Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia's colleagues on Wednesday offered him their endorsement in the upcoming mayoral election.

Commissioners Richard Boykin, Robert Steele, Luis Arroyo, Jr. and Stanley Moore gave their official endorsements to Garcia at a press conference at 9:15 a.m. at the Cook County Building.

Garcia addressed the new negative ad from Rahm Emanuel and suggested the mayor should focus stop focusing on attacking Garcia and start working on fixing the city's financial situation, according to the Chicago Tribune.

In a tweet after the press conference, Boykin said, "This morning I endorsed Chuy Garcia for Mayor of Chicago. Chicago is too divided. Chuy will unite us."

Garcia will face incumbent Mayor Rahm Emanuel in the April 7 election after Emanuel failed to secure a majority vote and win the race outright.

The 7th District commissioner on Tuesday received the endorsement of former Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, who has been credited with helping raise Barack Obama's political profile in the early 2000s.

Garcia in recent days has also snagged the endorsements of Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rep. Danny Davis, and the Teamsters Local 743, which endorsed Emanuel in the mayor's race four years ago.

A poll released on Sunday showed Emanuel and Garcia in a statistical dead heat in the race.

Garcia on Wednesday will also attend a Chicago Teachers Union leadership conference. CTU President Karen Lewis endorsed Garcia after she was forced to drop out of the race because of health issues.
