Former Schools CEO Duncan to Visit Chicago

Maybe Secretary of Education Arne Duncan can be the peacemaker between Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Gov. Pat Quinn.

The former Chicago Public Schools CEO on Friday will bring his bus tour to Schurz High School, on the city's northwest side, to visit a classroom and to hold a panel discussion with local leaders.

Quinn and Emanuel -- who have recently been at odds over pending legislation that would bring casinos to Chicago -- are both slated to attend, as is current CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard.

Both the mayor and the governor were out in Chicago on Tuesday promoting the first day of school, but attended different events.

Quinn initially tried to be political when asked whether they'd been invited to each other's event.

"We really want to embrace education as the very best way to have equal opportunity for everyone," said Quinn.

"Is that a 'No' on the invitation?" a reporter queried.

"You know, I don't know, I think he's at a different school and I'm at this school."
