Beer To Dog Biscuits: Chicago-Area Businesses Create Presidential Candidate-Inspired Products Ahead of Illinois Primary

Each cycle, elections bring opinions, and parodies. As the focus shifts to Illinois' primary election on Tuesday, Chicago-area businesses took to product creation to portray their feelings about the presidential candidates, in particular.

A Chicago dog-owner and 3D-printing hobbyist has combined his frustration for U.S. politics with his love of dogs to create a new canine treat.

Jack Knott, an Old-Town-based publicist, crafted a line of dog biscuits shaped like the faces of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and Chris Christie.

According to Knott's Kickstarter campaign, the dog biscuit line titled “Boneheads” was named after the way he views the presidential candidates.

The biscuits, made without preservatives and artificial flavors, are personally designed by Knott with photos he found of the politicians online, using a 3D printer and face-modeling software.

Speaking of dogs, The Weiner Circle has made their own fun with the upcoming election.

The well-known hot dog stand in Chicago created a new menu item called “The Trump Footlong,” a 3-inch Chicago-style hot dog that takes advantage of recent jokes about the size of Trump's hands.

As part of the restaurant's call to “Make Wieners Great Again," diners can purchase the hot dog on its own for $2.69 or order the “Trump Package” and get two, 3-inch Chicago-style hot dogs, fries and a drink for $8.30. Want more? The Trump Super PAC includes four, 3-inch Chicago-style hot dogs with fries and a drink for $12.56.

The GOP presidential hopeful will speak at a free rally Friday at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion, an event expected to bring plenty of supporters and protesters.

And to go with your Trump Footlong, how about some $5 Trump-inspired beer?

5 Rabbit Cerveceria, the Bedford Park brewery that once supplied a golden ale for the restaurant in Chicago's Trump International Hotel and Tower and pulled the product in June, renamed its Trump beer after Trump’s hair.

Just before Tuesday's Illinois primary, the brewery is releasing a new batch on special this weekend only. A limited amount of 12-ounce Chinga tu Pelo bottles go on sale Saturday for $5 each.

“As we have said before, not only is it right, but it feels right to take a stance against racism, misogyny, bigotry, and ignorance," the brewery said in a post on Instagram. "We know we’re small but our protest is real.”

5 Rabbit Cerveceria also will sell “Bullies aren’t Leaders” posters for $5 and give out stickers.
