How soon is now for the proposed tax increase? By tomorrow, according to Gov. Pat Quinn.
Quinn is expected to sign the new bill "in the next 24 hours," press spokesman Annie Thompson said today.
His signature is the last piece of the puzzle to pass the bill, which would raise the state income tax rate from 3 to 5 percent. The 66 percent hike in personal income tax is an effort to deal with the state's staggering budget crisis.
