State Lawmaker Proposes Illinois Wine Tax

Law would tax wines sales two cents per gallon

You may soon have to pony up a bit more cash for your wine -- especially if you purchase it by the gallon.

Downstate Rep. Mike Bost (R) is sponsoring a proposal that would tax Illinois wine sales two cents per gallon.

If HB 3331 becomes law, the proceeds from the tax would be used to promote Illinois' wine industry.

More than 100 wineries are located in Illinois, most in the southern part of the state.
