U.S. Senator Mark Kirk was non-committal when asked whether he would support Penny Pritzker's bid for Commerce Secretary.
Penny Pritzker's nomination for Commerce Secretary is getting a lot of support from the hometown team.
A spokesman for Republican Sen. Mark Kirk told Crain's Chicago that Kirk is on board with her candidacy, and plans to introduce her at the Capitol Hill confirmation hearings Thursday.
Kirk recently met with Pritzker at his Washington, DC office. According to the spokesman, Kirk is impressed with her business experience and believes that she'll be willing to take on special interests.
President Barack Obama nominated Pritzker for the position. Pritzker's family owns the Hyatt Hotel empire, and she's provided crucial fundraising support for not only Obama's campaigns, but also Sen. Dick Durbin's, who also supports her nomination.
Pritzker has been visiting with various lawmakers in an attempt to solidify support.
