Meet the new dynasty, same as the old dynasty?

When she won the 7th ward council seat in '07, Sandi Jackson was perhaps the brightest signifier of the post-Daley era. Wife of Jesse Jackson Jr., son of the civil rights leader and perpetual thorn in Daley's side, she trounced Darcel Beavers -- herself the daughter of a former alderman and longtime Daley ally. The win solidified Jackson's black Chicago power base, especially on the South Side, and she became one of a handful of aldermen to routinely buck the Daley machine.

Jackson has since opposed several Daley tax increases while advocating for black-owned businesses and community development.

But Jackson is often suspected of putting her own ambition first. And as scandal befell her family after Daley's retirement announcement, the Jackson star seems to have waned. Or is she simply waiting?
