Republican Accuses JJJ of “Stealing” Will County

We always hear Republicans complaining that Cook County has taken over the state. But Dave Carlson, the GOP candidate for Will County State’s Attorney, is taking that complaint a step further, by accusing Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. of stealing part of his county, and taking it home to Chicago.

Last Saturday, Jackson organized a “ceremonial ground breaking” for an airport in Peotone. Jackson has long promoted a third airport in the Southland. Peotone, long identified as the best site for that airport, is in the newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District, which Jackson will represent beginning next year.

Carlson, who attended the event, claims that Chicagoans ripped up sod and took it home as a souvenir.

“There were hundreds of Jackson supporters from Chicago,” Carlson said. “While they have the right to assemble they don’t have the right to vandalize property and literally steal Will County land.”

Carlson is attempting to make Cook County’s alleged appropriation of Will County an issue in his campaign to unseat State’s Attorney James Glasgow, a Democrat. He’s asking Glasgow to prosecute the land thieves.

“They were literally stealing Will County to take back to Jackson’s headquarters in Chicago,” Carlson said, “and where was Will County’s top prosecutor or his representative when this was happening?”

Jackson Jr. has bigger problems to worry about than Carlson when it comes to the Peotone airport.

Members of the airline industry oppose the idea, as does Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
