Quinn's No Chicken About Hipster Trend

The governor is raising hens

Who’d think Gov. Pat Quinn was such a hipster.

A cool new national trend of raising chickens and hens has hit the Governor’s Springfield home.

Quinn keeps eight hens in a penned home on the grounds of the Executive Mansion.  Each hen produces about one egg a day and they also recycle plant waste and provide manure for the gardens, according to the mansion’s master gardener.

While some cities have outlawed the residential hens, Springfield allows for backyard chickens, as long as they aren’t used for commercial purposes.
