Quinn Sends 21,000 Pizzas Overseas For Super Bowl

Thousands of Chicago-style pizzas are en route to members of the military for Super Bowl Sunday.

Nonprofit group Pizzas 4 Patriots along with Gov. Pat Quinn and DHL on Tuesday sent 21,000 deep-dish, ready-to-bake pizzas to arrive in time for the big game. Quinn said it's enough pizza to feed every soldier stationed in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

“It’s our duty as civilians to honor our men and women in uniform for the many sacrifices they make to protect our freedom,” Quinn said.

Ret. Master Sergeant Mark Evans, founder of Pizzas 4 Patriots, said his organization has provided more than 122,000 "slices of home" to service men and women since 2008.

“While our soldiers’ presence in the Middle East continues to become smaller, they still need to know that we appreciate the sacrifices they make for us, our families and our country,” Evans said.

The shipment will be distributed to Camp Bastion, Bagram Airbase and Kandahar in Afghanistan, Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and Forward Operating Bases in both countries.
