The Illinois State Capitol looms large for some wannabe governors.
I recently heard a Chicago political pro remark, “2014 begins on Wednesday.” The point is, in Chicago -- which, it’s said, is to politics what Paris is to romance -- the election schedule NEVER ENDS. Like the commercialized holidays of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, our elections bleed together and trip all over each other. So just you’ve recycled all the campaign mailers from the presidential election, your box will start filling up with literature from people running for township road supervisor, school board trustee, and mayor.

Filing deadline for candidates in the spring consolidated elections: Dec. 17-24, 2012
Spring consolidated election: April 9, 2013
Candidates may begin circulating petitions for the 2014 primaries: Sept. 3, 2013
Candidates must file petitions for the 2014 primaries: Nov. 25-Dec. 2, 2013
2014 primary election: March 18, 2014
Candidates for mayor may begin circulating petitions: Sept. 8, 2014
2014 general election: Nov. 4, 2014
Deadline to file for Chicago mayoral election: Dec. 8, 2014
Chicago municipal election: Feb. 24, 2015
Municipal run-off election: April 7, 2015
Candidates may begin circulating petitions for the 2016 primaries: Sept. 7, 2015
Candidates must file petitions for the 2016 primaries: Nov. 30-Dec. 7, 2015
