Funny while it lasted?
Quinn hired a longtime advisor to be the state's first-ever canoe czar, but after a flurry of bad press -- ok, one bit of regular press and a popular blog post mocking it -- the governor has rescinded the position.
"Although the Water Trail Coordinator is an important position....because of the state's current fiscal responsibilities....the position is not a possibility at this time," said a Quinn spokesperson.
The appointee was to be Claude Walker, who's been with Quinn for two decades.
As Rich Miller notes: Quinn can't claim that the state is broke and then pay somebody $85K to be a “canoe czar.”
