Michelle Obama To Honor Chicago Alma Mater

The first lady this week will honor her Chicago alma mater's namesake.

Michelle Obama, a proud graduate of Whitney Young High School, is scheduled to host a screening of a documentary about Young's life.

The screening of "The Power Broker: Whitney Young's Fight For Civil Rights," is planned for 3:30 p.m. CT Tuesday in Washington with a live-stream offered at whitehouse.gov/live.

The film chronicles Young's life from segregated Kentucky to leading the National Urban League. Young died in 1971.

Obama is one of several influential figures to emerge from the Chicago school, including movie directors, composers, professional sports starts and playwrights.
