Mayor Emanuel will give Cardinal Francis George the Chicago Medal of Merit at Wednesday's City Council meeting, NBC 5 has learned.
The Chicago Medal of Merit is the city’s highest honor that is rarely awarded to a person.
Cardinal George will also give the invocation at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. After the Clerk reads the resolution about the Cardinal, each alderman will have the opportunity to speak.
Then, Mayor Emanuel will walk to Cardinal George and present him with prestigious Medal of Merit.
The council rules will then be suspended to allow Cardinal George to address the Council and others in attendance.
