Like a shiny-domed terminator from some post-Blagojevichian future, Attorney General Lisa Madigan is considered a flinty savior of Illinois Democrats and heir apparent (eventually) to the statehouse.
The daughter of powerful House Speaker Mike Madigan, she has support both in Illinois and D.C. Though considered the White House's prime candidate for Obama's former Senate seat -- Rahm Emanuel called her "the most popular political figure in Illinois" -- she declined and ran again for attorney general. Madigan was also, if you believe Blagojevich, the former governor's first pick for that same Senate seat, though political observers say that's a self-serving mistruth from Blago.
Whatever the case, Madigan's an Illinois heavy. Who she investigates, and what she decides to do with her career, will affect the political landscape for years to come.
