The Buzz: Kelly M. Cassidy, appointed to office in May 2011 after state Rep. Harry Osterman was elected as 48th ward alderman, is one of only two openly gay female legislators in the General Assembly. Through the years, she has worked as an advocate and professional on issues of choice, equality, social justice, access to quality health care and childcare. She was the former legislative director for the National Organization for Women and former legislative aide to Sen. John Cullerton.
