Former Mayor Richard Daley Endorses Emanuel for New Term as Mayor

"I believe he deserves another four years to continue to strengthen this city we all love," Daley said in a statement

Former Mayor Richard Daley is backing Mayor Rahm Emanuel for a new term as mayor, Chicago Crain’s business reported Monday.

Emanuel "is working hard at a job I know is very difficult," Daley said in a statement to Crain’s relayed by his former City Hall press secretary Jackie Heard, "I believe he deserves another four years to continue to strengthen this city we all love."

Emanuel campaign spokesman Steve Mayberry said in a statement that Mayor Emanuel is grateful for Mayor Daley’s endorsement.

“Mayor Daley lives and breathes Chicago,” Mayberry said. “Rahm has long considered him a mentor and friend and is honored to have his support.”

Despite Mayor Emanuel distancing himself and touting the changes he's made since Daley’s tenure, it seems the two have put their political differences aside.

Crain’s reported the two were seen lunching together as recently as last week at Daley’s favorite Italian restaurant Piccolo Sogno.
