    The city of Chicago is teaming with Nike to offer free basketball clinics and a safe place for kids to play this summer.

    In a statement Saturday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the program known as CHI LEAGUE PARKS will be held in neighborhood parks across the city. It will run every Saturday from June 15 to Aug. 10.

    Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Wednesday it would have been politically easy to just blame the previous administration for the city's parking meter deal. Instead, he said Wednesday's passage of the revised contract helps ease the pain of the 75-year deal.

    Emanuel says Nike "answered our call" for businesses and residents to help support youth by providing safe and productive opportunities throughout the summer.

    He says the basketball program will build on the success of Windy City Hoops, which has drawn more than 1,200 participants from neighborhoods with some of the city's highest crime rates.
