The Buzz: Harris previously served in the House of Representatives in the late 1980s and early 1990s before leaving to take the position as senior vice president of the Illinois Hospital Association.
In 2003, Harris retired from his military service at the rank of major general of the National Guard. He then went on to become deputy director and chief of staff of the Iraq Reconstruction Management Office. Most recently, Harris was the military analyst for WGN-TV Chicago before deciding to pursue a position as state representative.
