David Axelrod Slashes the Stache on ‘Morning Joe'

The stache is off!

Democratic campaign strategist David Axelrod on Friday made good on his promise to shave the mustache he kept for almost 40 years.

It began as a wager with "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough during the presidential campaign. Axelrod said he'd shave his mustache if President Barack Obama lost Minnesota, Pennsylvania or Michigan against Mitt Romney. Thankfully for the facial hair, Obama won them all.

The wager turned into a challenge to raise $1 million for epilepsy research to benefit Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. Axelrod's daughter, Lauren, suffers from epilepsy.

Supporters completed that goal Thursday night and once again, the stache was at stake.

Axelrod tweeted: "You did it! $1m plus for http://slashthestache.com ! So I will keep my part of the bargain and surrender the stache at 7:15 on @ Morning_Joe!"

Surrender he did.

"How are we feeling, David?" Scarborough asked him.

"Faint," Axelrod said in a barber's chair.

Obama's now baby-faced former senior advisor is stache-free.
