Clinton Boosts Rahm

Former President Bill Clinton came through for Rahm Emanuel at this morning's campaign rally for the mayoral candidate, speaking highly of the former Clinton senior adviser and even calling him "one of the pivotal reasons I was elected."

The Cultural Center was flooded with an estimated 700, and Clinton was met with rousing applause.

Emanuel introduced his former boss, saying, "I followed him from Little Rock to the White House. ... I couldn't ask for a better role model."

Clinton recalled his own presidential campaign as he spoke highly of Emanuel.

"I didn't know if I could raise the money until I met him. Finally I met someone who makes me look laid back."

Clinton said he watched Emanuel in the White House and in Congress and that Emanuel was always honest. "He will be fearlessly honest with you," Clinton said.

Clinton acknowledged the enormity of the mayoral job at hand, saying, "Chicago is critical to America's future." But as he listed Emanuel's accomplishments, Clinton stood by his man.

"I say this as someone who is profoundly indebted to Chicago. ... Rahm Emanuel for mayor."
