City Pumps $5 Million Into Choose Chicago

Mayor, Aviation Department seek to promote city's airports

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is stepping up efforts to attract tourism to Chicago.

According to a news release issued by City Hall, Choose Chicago will receive an additional $5 million in funding to help its marketing efforts for the city.

The Chicago Department of Aviation will provide most of the cash in this latest round of funding, as it's specifically geared toward promoting Midway and O'Hare airports. The goal is to increase the numbers of travellers at the airports and to promote the city as an international travel destination.

City leaders have set a goal of 50 million visitors to Chicago every year.

Choose Chicago, a consolidation of several tourism groups, was created during Emanuel's first year in office.
