Chicago's Top Cop To Undergo Back Surgery

Chicago's police superintendent is undergoing back surgery Thursday, and a police department spokesman said he will be off the job for "a week at most."

“Supt McCarthy is having outpatient back surgery," spokesman Adam Collins said. "He’ll be back at the office next week.”

Supt. Garry McCarthy said this week the surgery was to correct a longstanding back problem.

The surgery is taking place at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
