He attended Harvard Business School, receiving a master’s degree in business administration and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University. Ahmad’s starting salary as city comptroller will be $165,000.

Goals: Ahmad will be part of Emanuel’s business friendly financial team charged with the goal of decreasing the city’s deficit. He will need to work closely with Lois Scott, Alexandra Holt and others to achieve the goals Emanuel set out.
Challenges: Ahmad will need to pay special attention to debt management given the administration’s intense focus on the deficit. He will also need to keep in mind the state’s role in the city’s debt and deficit and actively push to get the money owed from the state.
