The Buzz: Attorney and former educator Amanda Howland is campaigning on a platform of jobs, education and ethics in the newly-created 26th district. She supports transparency and encouraging investments in new and green technology.

Howland has criticized Illinois for being one of the 15 wealthiest states, yet ranking 48th in educational spending, according to her website. As a former teacher and school administrator, she feels she has the background to improve education.

Howard previously worked as a special education teacher in Lake and McHenry counties, and has served as assistant principal and principal in Bartlett. She currently practices law in Lake County and is a trustee at the College of Lake County. She also is a gymnastics enthusiast.
