Off to See the Lizards With “V's” Laura Vandervoort

Ask Laura Vandervoort for a tease on Season Two of “V,”and she knows just what highlights the hardcore fans want to hear.

“You find out more about the mythology about the Vs. There're a lot of new characters showing up. And you see more lizard skin,” Vandervoort tells PopcornBiz.

Vandervoort – who plays Lisa, the daughter of the Visitors’ comely/creepy high commander Anna (Morena Baccarin) whose allegiances may or may not be divided – says jaw-dropping plot twists aplenty await in year two. “The new season is definitely going to be pretty shocking to a lot of the audience who watched the original, and even to new audiences that are going to join us,” she says.

“I think one of the great things about this season is that you can't tell what sides everyone is on,” the actress explains. “Even the actors – when we read the script, we were all pretty shocked at the character revelations and new relationships that are growing, and the premiere episode does deal with what the red sky was in the finale of season one. The queen of the Vs released a red sky out of vengeance for the humans and nobody really quite knew what that was and what it was going to do, so that's dealt with."

“Lisa's realm has opened up quite a bit, in terms of who she interacts with,” she says. “I am off the ship quite a bit more this season, and her relationship with Erica [Elizabeth Mitchell] is growing and developing. And Tyler [Logan Huffman] and Lisa's relationship is being tested because of their beliefs and the things that she has to hide from, too. I'm working with a lot of other actors as well – but that will give things away!”

One co-star she can reveal she’ll be sharing scenes with is Jane Badler, who played the jaw-unhinging, rat-swallowing alien commander Diana in the original 1980s incarnations of “V” and now joins the cast of the re-imagined version.

“She's playing my grandma, and Anna's mother,” says Vandervoort. “I've had a chance to work with Jane and she's wonderful, and then obviously her character being there mixes things up with my relationship with my mother. We also have Marc Singer who I haven't worked with, but he's great as well.”

Vandervoort says she’s enjoyed comparing notes with Badler about their “V” experiences, past vs. present. “When we've been to comic book conventions she's told me a little bit about it. I think she was around my age when she did the original and it really changed her life as well. Even the rat-eating experience – we all just kind of joke about that.”

Badler must tell that inside-showbiz anecdote pretty well, because as far as Vandervoort’s concerned, getting her own rat eating scene would be a dream come true. “If I get to do it, that would be great!”
