A few short weeks after the departure of Patty Jenkins, Marvel has settled on someone else to take over the director's chair for the upcoming "Thor" sequel.

Alan Taylor, who's directed episodes of more than a dozen of TV's most critically acclaimed series, has signed on to replace Jenkins as director of "Thor 2," reported Heat Vision. Taylor's most recent work on "Game of Thrones" would appear to make him a great fit for the God of Thunder. Taylor is said to have beat out fellow "Games" director Daniel Minahan for the job.

Jenkins and Marvel parted ways over good old fashioned "creative differences," which is said to have angered "Thor" star Natalie Portman, who had been excited by the prospect of a woman director breaking the superhero barrier. Oh well, maybe next time--how about Marti Noxon for "Thor 3"?

In addition to "Game," Taylor has helmed "Boardwalk Empire," "Bored to Death," "Nurse Jackie," "In Treatment," "Mad Men," "Law & Order," "The Sopranos," "Big Love," "Rome," "Lost," "Sex and the City," "Six Feet Under," "The West Wing" and "Homicide," among others. You've likely seen a few of those, and probably even enjoyed some of them. And he's got a couple of pretty good feature films under his belt, too, including his debut effort, "Palookaville," and "The Emperor's New Clothes."
