"The Social Network," a tale about the prickly founder of Facebook, and "The King's Speech," a saga of Queen Elizabeth II's stammering dad, are among likely nominees for Hollywood's biggest prize as Oscar nominations are announced Tuesday. "Inception"
Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the latest from director Chris Nolan, a thriller from the near future where your mind can be the scene of the crime.
The English historical drama took home seven trophies, including Best Film, British Film, Original Screenplay (David Seidler), Actor (Colin Firth), Supporting Actor (Geoffrey Rush), Supporting Actress (Helena Bonham Carter) and Original Music (Alexandre Desplat).
The BAFTA's historically don't have much predictive value when it comes to Oscar night, but this year's awards tally is another indicator of the fact the "The King's Speech" has supplanted "The Social Network " as the favorite. We wouldn't vote for either film, but we are glad that there will at least be some suspense when it's time to announce the top prize.
