Disney has just unveiled the first look at "The Help," an adaptation of the best-selling Kathryn Stockett novel about African-American maids living and working in Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960s.

The film stars Emma Stone ("Easy A") as Skeeter Phelan, an aspiring writer and society misfit who decides to fight for the rights of the maids and nannies.

"The Help" marks the directorial debut of Tate Taylor - who is close friends with Stockett and who won the job on her insistence.

The trailer looks to be sassy and poignant in equal measures...take a look...

"The Help" opens everywhere August 12th.
