Steve Martin's not new to birdwatching.

Steve Martin let Alec Baldwin get most of the laughs in "It's Complicated" and even gave him the last word in during their co-Oscar-hosting stint.

His next comedy competition will come from Jack Black and Owen Wilson, if he signs on for "The Big Year." The Hollywood Reporter states that the comic-actor is in talks to play one of three men trying to outdo each other in a competition to spot the rarest birds in North America. The rivalry is an allegory for the challenges each faces in his own life.

More Martin is always a good thing and this quirky project seems perfect for him. The movie is based on a 1998 book "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession." Not the type of book you'd expect to be adapted into a screenplay, but David Frankel of "Marley and Me" (which also starred Wilson) will direct the project.

Filming begins in May in Canada.
