For Alison Brie, working on Wes Craven's latest "Scream" film was something to shriek about.

For “Community” star Alison Brie, her stint in “Scream 4” was less about blood-curdling shrieks and more about stifling squeals of joy.

“I was very conscious of sort of hiding my 'Scream' nerdiness while I was on set,” Brie, an admitted superfan of the original “Scream” trilogy, tells PopcornBiz. “Because I wanted to just be a part of the cast and not be a fan the whole time I was there. So I tried to keep it under wraps as much as I could.”

“Working with Wes Craven was such a cool thing,” she says. “As a fan of the franchise there was part of me that was just sort of reeling with the excitement of being a part of this process. I was obsessed with the first one. Then they had shot part of the second film in my hometown, South Pasadena, and I was like driving by and watching. And then I was there. It really felt like things had come full circle, being there on set and seeing the fans outside taking pictures.”

“It's really the kind of franchise that fans get into because of the comedy and the horror,” says Brie. “It's like winking at itself. It's in some ways similar to 'Community' in that way. I think that it has sort of an eye on itself while executing its genre impeccably.”

Brie, who also has a recurring role on “Mad Men,” is careful to keep any dagger-sharp plot points under wraps. “I will just say the character, itself, is very cool and interesting. She sort of looks up to Gale Weathers – Courteney Cox's character – so she's along that same sort of vein. And I though, 'Oh, this is going to be such a fun character to play.' And it totally was.”
