Oscar weekend might be a time to revel in great movies. But we're already looking beyond that to great, bad movie series set to return.

Mark our nostalgic joy at the revival of the "Police Academy" series. New Line is looking for new recruits, according to the Hollywood Reporter's HeatVision blog. No actual police experience required. Just a willingness to work fantastically lame gags in a police uniform.

To ensure the comedic formula stays the same and never actually strives for critical praise -- original producer Steve Maslansky is back on the case. No writer or director has been attached.

It will be fun to see what current acting fave will be brought in to center a story about a rag-tag group of police academy cadets who gain access to he Academy when the mayor waives entry requirements. In the series beginning in 1984, this was Steve Guttenberg as Mahoney with Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone both played their parts as bombshell romantic leads.

"It's going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV," Maslansky said. "It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme."
