“Evil Dead” Remake Getting a Lift From Diablo Cody

It's taken 30 years, but it's finally happening--like demons of old summoned from the beyond, the old gang is getting back toegther to conjure up a new "Evil Dead."

Writer-director Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell are readying a remake of their 1981 cult hit "The Evil Dead." Fede Alvarez will be writing and directing the new version, and he'll be getting some script help from Diablo Cody, she of "Juno" and "Jennifer's Body" fame.

The original film starred Campbell as one of five friends who head off to a cabin in the woods where they unwittingly summon ancient demons. It was a brilliantly audacious piece of lo-fi filmmaking. With massive leaps in FX technology, coupled with what is sure to be a significant bump in budget, this new take is sure to look a lot better. Of course, part of the original's charm was its camp vibe--it'll be a challenge for Alzarez to keep that alive.
