Christian Bale Weighing His Options, “A Star Is Born”, “Oldboy” & “Noah” to Name a Few

"Dark Knight Rises" finishes shooting this fall, marking the end of an era for star Christian Bale. Once the Batman trilogy comes to a close, the actor will then decide what's next, and he's got a number of enticing choices, reported Variety.

Clint Eastwood wants Bale for a remake of "A Star Is Born" with Beyonce. This whole thing feels terribly wrongheaded to us, the enduring popularity of this story one of life's enduring mysteries. And while we're very excited for "J. Edgar," we haven't totally forgiven Eastwood for "Hereafter," so he's gonna have to show us he's got his fastball back before we can get excited about something like this.

Spike Lee wants him to play the heavy in a remake of the Korean revenge classic "Oldboy." We've all known for more than 20 years that Lee is a gifted filmmaker, but "The Inside Man" still caught us off guard, who'd've guessed he'd make a simple genre flick so good? Suffice to say we love the sound of this.

Scott Cooper ("Crazy Heart") wants him for "Out of the Furnace," an adaptation of Brad Inglesby's "The Low Dweller," about a man out of prison seeking to avenge his brother's his brother's death. We enjoyed "Crazy Heart" immensely, and it's hard not to root for a guy like Cooper. Bale does like to do small films now and again, this could be a good fit.

And then there's Darren Aronofsky, who wants Bale for the title role in "Noah," the Biblical epic that the director has been working on since he was a teenager. Considering Aronofsky's lifelong obsession with this project, and his desire to cast Bale, we're guessing his take on Noah is gonna be somewhat reminiscent of Capt. Ahab from "Moby Dick," an obsessed, half-mad yachtsman at war with God. Bale could do that in his sleep.

"Dark Knight Rises" opens July 20, and next will also see the release of Bales "The 13 Women of Nanjing," about a group of Chinese sex workers who volunteer to replace college students serving as escorts for Japanese soldiers.
