After all the fuss about France's first lady having a small role in Woody Allen's next film, it now turns out Carla Bruni may end up on the cutting room floor.

The French press recently made a big to-do over what appeared to be Bruni's difficulties filming even the simplest line-free scenes for Allen's "Midnight in Paris," about a love triangle between Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard. From here it looked like much ado about nothing, just tabloid grist.

Now comes word that Bruni's acting debut has been such an utter failure that most of her scenes have been re-shot with the much younger Lea Seydoux taking over the role of the gallery opener in Allen's film.

‘The American director has taken the precaution of filming the First Lady’s scenes with someone else,’ a movie insider told the Paris website Bakchich.info, according to the Daily Mail.

Who really cares if Carla Bruni can't act? She's a beloved singer and a gorgeous model and married to the president -- she's had a pretty good run. Is it embarrassing? Sure, but so what?

Seydoux, a star in France, is known to American audiences for her small role in this year's "Robin Hood," in which she played... She's certainly hot enough to replace Bruni and is undoubtedly a much better actor, and at the end of the day that all Woody cares about.

Allen's next film, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger," hits theaters Sept. 22.
