With the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals, team spirit is popping up all over town.
Ches Perry painted a 600-square-foot Blackhawks wall mural at 4251 N Milwaukee Ave., in the city's Portage Park neighborhood.
The 63-year-old painter, hockey player and fan owns Right Way Signs but covered up his own store logo in order to show his love of hockey. The work began at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, and Perry said it will take about 15 to 20 hours to complete the 12-foot logo with just three gallons of paint.
"We're life-long hockey fans. I grew up in Chicago. My dad's from Newfoundland in Canada, so he played hockey on the pond growing up. We've always had a deep appreciation for the Blackhawks and the NHL," said Perry's son, Alex Perry. "It was a very exciting year for the team and the NHL so we just wanted to keep that momentum going."
If the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup, the Perrys plan to keep the mural up for an entire year.
