Chicago Blackhawks Defenseman Gustav Forsling Undergoes Wrist Surgery

Forsling had 13 points in 41 games for the Blackhawks last season

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Gustav Forsling will be out of commission for the foreseeable future after undergoing surgery on his right wrist, the team announced Tuesday.

Forsling, who had three goals and 10 assists with the Blackhawks in 41 games last season, was hoping to make the team out of training camp, but is expected to miss up to 14 weeks due to the injury.

That timeline would have him coming back around mid-November, meaning that he will likely start the season on injured reserve.

The injury to Forsling likely opens up a roster spot, with Erik Gustafsson, Jan Rutta, and Henri Jokiharju all poised to earn a consistent role on the Blackhawks’ blue line.

Other prospects like Blake Hillman and Dennis Gilbert could also get a look for the Blackhawks as training camp looms next month.
