Blackhawks Won't Face Rick Nash Friday vs. Rangers

The Chicago Blackhawks are set to play the New York Rangers twice within the next six days, but it appears they will avoid facing one of that team’s best players when they battle their Original Six rivals.

That player is winger Rick Nash, who suffered a groin injury in his team’s game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. Nash, who has scored 11 goals so far this season for the Rangers, underwent an MRI on the injury Wednesday, and although the results suggest that he’s not dealing with a long-term issue, he still got some bad news.

According to the Rangers, Nash is expected to miss a week or so with the injury, which likely means that he will not suit up for either game against the Blackhawks during that time. The Blackhawks will welcome the Rangers to the United Center for their next game on Friday night, and then they’ll travel to the Big Apple to battle the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.

Those two games are the only times that the Blackhawks will see the Rangers during the regular season, so missing out on facing Nash could be a good thing for the team.

Nash is currently second on the Rangers in terms of goal-scoring, and he had been playing well of late, registering points in three of his last four games before suffering the injury Tuesday.
